BradleyBradley Bradley lies close to the town of Ashbourne in the Derbyshire Dales. Bradley is a small village with little more than its church that dates back to the 14th century and a school and a village hall. The Church of All Saints has a bell turret but no tower on the 14th century nave and chancel. The original wooden bell tower was struck by lightning. In the church there are several memorials to the Meynell Family. The base and part of the shaft of a Saxon Cross stands in the churchyard. The present Bradley Hall was built in the late 18th century by Hugo Meynell. The family had originally lived in the old hall, bought from Sir Andrew Kniverton, who had been made bankrupt by the civil war, but Hugo Meynell had that hall demolished. The present hall is a red brick building of immense length. Since the Meynells, the hall has had many owners and occupants. A curiosity can be found at Moorend, where the road appears to pass through the middle of the cottages known as The Hole in the Wall. SK 224 463 View Larger Map Weather Forecast
