YoulgreaveYoulgreaveYoulgreave is an interesting village between the River Lathkill and the River Bradford surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Peak District in Bradford Dale. Midway between Bakewell and Matlock, Youlgreave makes a good base for exploring the Peak District National Park. Youlgreave is one of the larger villages in the Derbyshire Dales district and it's narrow streets and assortment of old buildings give it much character. Once a centre for lead mining for over 200 years, its’ magnificent church with splendid tower reflect the prosperity of those days. Now a thriving working community with a strong social scene it had, until quite recently, a unique private water supply known as The Fountain. Water was piped up from the River Bradford to a water storage tank located in the village centre. "Thimble Hall" contains 2 small rooms, one above the other, connected by a ladder and is officially the smallest detached house in the world! The village is well known for its annual well dressings, which take place towards the end of June. There are 5 wells, known as, Bank Top Well, Coldwell End, Fountain Well, Holywell Lane and Reading Room Well. The dressing of these wells is carried out in a similar fashion as at Tissington.
