Jane Eyre Filming LocationsJane Eyre Filming LocationsNewcomer Ruth Wilson (Jane Eyre) and Toby Stephens (Edward Rochester) headed up an all-star cast in a passionate new version of the much-adored classic Jane Eyre for BBC ONE. The series started on Sunday 24th September 06.![]() Filming of the BBC's latest adaptation of Jane Eyre was on location in the Peak District and Derbyshire. This was quite appropriate really, as Charlotte Bronte's original novel was written after a visit to this area and many of its descriptive passages depict the scenery that attracts visitors to the area today. At the start of filming, producer Diederick Santer said: "In her brand new adaptation of Jane Eyre, Sandy Welch has mined Bronte's novel for every ounce of passion, drama, colour, madness and horror available, bringing to life Jane's inner world with beauty, humour and at times great sadness. "The locations we have chosen are stormy and majestic and I hope that Sandy's original take on the story will be enjoyed as much by long-term fans of the book as by those who have never read it." North Lees Hall and Stanage Edge This Elizabethan manor house looks over the valley towards Hathersage, the village where Charlotte Bronte holidayed with her friend. descriptions of the hall are found in Jane Eyre - "It was three storeys high, of proportions not vast, though considerable...battlements round the top gave it a picturesque look". Bolsover Castle This castle takes a starring role in the BBC's new adaptation of Jane Eyre. The film crew transformed the Riding House into the interior of Lowood School. Haddon Hall In the latest adaptation, Haddon Hall is used as the location for Thornfield Hall, home of Edward Rochester. The Hall was also used in the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice as the set for the Inn at Lampton along with a Franco Zeffirelli 1996 version of Jane Eyre, The Prince and the Pauper and Granada Television's Moll Flanders. Both Zeffirelli and Santor agreed-Haddon Hall is Thornfield."It's this wonderful, atmospheric, medieval castle. It feels like it's been here since the beginning of time – and in a way it has been. It offers everything we need and it wasn't a difficult decision to make." And starlet Ruth Wilson, who was cast as Jane, has also fallen in love with Haddon: "It makes it so easy to act with all this history around you." Red House Stables Red House Stables regularly supplies horse drawn carriages for the film industry and offers visitors the chance to follow in the footsteps of the stars and book rides in different carriages. Ilam Hall and Country Park Exteriors of both the hall and parkland were used in the filming of Jane Eyre, along with countryside scenes in nearby Dovedale. Belton House Grantham, Lincolnshire NG32 2LS Telephone: 01476 566116 Film location for the BBC's Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and Tom Jones, outside the Peak District. Although Belton House has its own red room, opened in March 2004 after two years of restoration work, the red room where Mrs Reed locks Jane is actually being created at Sudbury Hall while Belton's red room is transformed into the grand salon at Gateshead. Wingfield Manor A ruined castle which was used as Thornfield for certain shots, especially after the fire. Goyt Valley Used shoot St. John Rivers' church, Moreton Parish Church, and lots of horse and carriage stuff. Snake Pass Used to shoot Jane's little school in the second episode. Chatsworth Estate Used for the proposal scene. Check out the Behind the Scenes Production Diary by Diederick Santer. There are currently no panoramic photographs for this location.
