Titan Cave SystemThe Titan Cave System is one of the most stunning parts of the Peak Cavern system in Castleton, in the Derbyshire Peak District. The Titan Shaft is a 464ft (141.5m) natural shaft, the biggest in the UK. Discovered in January 1999, the Titan Shaft is only accessible to professional cavers.After seven years of research, investigation, tunnelling and digging by Dave Nixon, a local potholer and leading underground explorer, and his team Titan has finally been revealed to the world. The cave has been carved out over millions of years by water eroding limestone and contains a massive waterfall which plunges deep below ground level. It is nearly 197ft - 60m - higher than the previous record holder, Gaping Gyhll in the Yorkshire Dales.
